Short Hills Halloween House is Ready to Spook the Glenwood Trick or Treaters!

Every year in our NJ Midtown Direct Town neighborhoods we can count on certain houses  getting decked out for Halloween. I live in the Glenwood Section of Short Hills and our neighborhood refer to the house in the video as “The Halloween House”. That home is for sale now and when I went on the listing appointment, we even said, ” Oh, it’s the Halloween house!”.  Now The Glenwood Section, much like the South Mountain Section, is a haven for trick or treaters because you can cover alot of houses in a short period of time. The kids quickly figure that out.  When the weather is nice, we go through as many as 12 bags of candy! But the parents are all outside drinking wine, so no one’s really counting.

One year, the day AFTER Halloween, my daughter and her friend decided to visit every house in Glenwood with their emptied pillowcases, telling the unsuspecting homeowners, ” We were sick on Halloween and couldn’t go out. Do you have any extra candy?”…. and of course – this is the day after Halloween when homeowners were anxious to get rid of their excess candy,  people emptied entire bags of candy into their pillowcases.  Pretty smart 4th graders, eh?

So witch Halloween stories come to mind for you?

Most Inspiring Leadership Books Shared By Sue Adler’s Facebook Friends

books 300x300 Most Inspiring Leadership Books Shared By Sue Adlers Facebook Friends Recently I posted a question on my Facebook page asking, “Which Leadership books have had the biggest impact on you and why?” and I received many, many fantastic responses from my Realtor friends across the country, local New Jersey friends and clients, and even best selling authors.    Comments varied from Steven Ligon’s, “At the risk of sounding trite, the Bible…the best examples of servant leadership are in the Bible. There are also great examples of leadership failure,” to Alex Charfen who said, “Think and Grow Rich, Born to Run, Unlimited Power, The Fighter’s Mind, Where Have all the Leaders Gone?, Power vs. Force : some of these are not considered leadership books but they should be. They have all had a profound impact on my life and business. ”

Short Hills resident, Caroline  Updyke and others really liked The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, stating, “It’s about character and principles and it’s one of my all time faves,” and best selling author of Seven Levels of Communication, Michael Maher, agreed and added dozens more to the list, including multiple biographies. Maher suggested you can find some great inspiration from Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Mother Teresa, and many other leaders.  After a conversation with Adam Hergenrother, I started Psycho-Cybernetics, which is absolutely a life changing book. We even got a response from Mindy Hager, Gary Keller’s executive assistant on Gary’s favorite Leadership books: Optimal Stress  byCarol J. Scott, M.D. , Practice Made Perfect  by Roberto Moretti , Margin  by Richard A. Swenson, M.D., and Mastery by George Leonard .

Tribute to Short Hills Realtor, Diane Newman

This week, the Millburn/Short Hills real estate community lost a  dear friend, Diane Newman.  I dont know anyone  who didnt love Diane. She was always honest, so giving of herself, really cared about people, and was always such a pleasure to work with.

We always remember who was nice to us in times that are not easy. Years ago, when I moved to Short Hills,  and had to start my real estate practice over in an entirely different state, when others treated me as a threat, Diane went out of her way to to help me acclimate to my new market. I will never forget her for that. She was always so secure in herself and gave of herself so freely.  She always worked from her heart.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to her daughter and real estate partner, Amanda, and the rest of her family. Diane will be missed by everyone she touched.

Sue Adler To Have Her Own Signature Sandwich at Millburn Deli

IMG 2675 edit 286x300 Sue Adler To Have Her Own Signature Sandwich at Millburn Deli Last night my husband and I attended the Millburn-Short Hills Newcomers Club Winter Gala at the beautiful Beacon Hill Club in Summit. There was an amazing turnout and I got to see so many of my clients -so it was alot of fun for me. There was a silent auction, and the first item, which quickly caught my eye, was  “Create your own signature sandwich at the Millburn Deli. Your sandwich will appear on the sandwich board for six months.” I instantly got excited  – I mean how amazing would this be for marketing? – seriously!

Well, I  put in a bid. A few hours later I noticed that I was outbid and the auction was nearing the end, so I stood by the table, feeling really competitive ( I cant help it, I’m just that way when I really want something) and made sure my bid was the highest.  So, yes, YAY, I won my own signature sandwich!!!! So here’s where I need your help.

What should I name my Millburn Deli sandwich? And what should be IN this signature sandwich?

At first I thought “The Sassy Sue Adler” – roast beef with melted provolone with sassy horseradish sauce. But it’s too much like another griller they have.

Then in the middle of the night I thought…. how bout “The SueAdler.combo”? ( SueAdler DOT combo -  Get it? ) But what to put in the combo?  Between appointments today I built my ideal sandwich in my mind… Turkey, avocado, sun dried tomatos, cucumbers, and goat cheese on a whole grain roll or a whole grain something or other.

Please be creative and share your ideas and do NOT be shy. And if you had to name your own deli signature sandwich, what would you name it and what would you put in it? Feel free to share your ideas here or on my facebook page:  http://www.facebook.com/sueadlerteam .   And if I like your idea better than mine, I’ll buy you deli sandwich!

Yours to count on,

Sue

A little Rocky Balboa Inspiration for 2010

As we move forward onto 2010, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite Rocky moments.   I realize this isnt your typical holiday post ( sorry, I’m kindof like that), but I thought this was such a powerful, inspirational  message to bring us into the new year and share with those we care about.

I plan to post this video onto both of my daughters’ facebook walls, so if you see comments on my wall such as “Mom, stay off of my wall!”  or possibly a little harsher than that, you’ll know why. But really, I’m fine with that - as long as the message in this video gets through to them, right? icon smile A little Rocky Balboa Inspiration for 2010

Wishing you and your family love, happiness, success and  good health this holiday season and throughout the new year.

Yours to count on,

Sue

Truly inspirational video to take you into 2009

[metacafe]http://www.metacafe.com/watch/79325/jason_mcelwain_scored_20_in_4_min[/metacafe]

Its Christmas day, and I just came across this video which made me cry- happy tears.  It also made me want to immediately share it with my children and my team with my motherly advice ( I can’t help myself!). Here goes:

As we look ahead to 2009, don’t let the noise of the naysayers get in the way of your path to success. Surround yourself with positive people who support your goals and help support their goals too!

You can accomplish anything if you’re:

1. focused on mastering it

2.persistent in pursuing your dreams

3. work with a servant’s heart.

I’d love to hear from you what advice you think we should add to this!

WHY YOU SHOULD PURCHASE “YOUR-CHILD’S-NAME.COM ” NOW!!
Years ago when I purchased www.SueAdler.com ( before any of the other Sue Adlers out there), I also purchased my daughters’ names for future use. Daryl, my oldest daughter, is now a senior at Millburn ( she’d probably kill me if she knew I was writing this!) . Because she’s an artist, we created a website www.DarylSeitchik.com with her “art gallery” to use for college applications. Read more
