Situated in the western part of Morris County, Mendham Township is a small and picturesque tranquil suburb where winding roads, gorgeous estates and historic landmarks combined to create a classic charm. The Mendham Township School District serves students in grades K-8 and consists of two NJ Rewards Schools, Mendham Township Elementary School and the U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School, Mendham Township Middle School. Graduates of the school
district attend Mendham High School, located in nearby Mendham Borough. Class sizes are small and the district offers extensive support to differentiate instruction in order to meet the individuals needs of each student. The district also makes use of extensive instructional technology, such as wireless laptops and Smart Boards. A community education program, Pathways to Learning, through a partnership with Morris County Arts Workshop (MCAW), provides unique learning opportunities after school and during the summer months for children who want to pursue a variety of interests.Â
Mendham High School has the distinction of being one of the few schools in the state that offers an International Baccalaureate program. Highly ranked, the school has a well deserved reputation. In addition to challenging students academically, various academic, artistic and social clubs are offered along with boys and girls sports teams.
The Mendham Township Recreation Department works to provide recreation and leisure opportunities for residents of all ages, including summer camps, athletic leagues and sports clubs. In addition, this small township has several parks and athletic fields including Brookside Beach, a lake offering swimming, volleyball and picnicking. During the winter months, residents gather at Brookside to ice skate. The Mendham Township Library offers various programs, services and displays for children, teens, and adults. The Mendham Health & Racquet Club is one of the area’s largest and most complete sport and fitness center. The Club has three main areas for recreation: 6 indoor tennis courts, a large, complete gym and an outdoor 25-meter swimming pool.Â
For the outdoor enthusiast, The Schiff Nature Preserve, located in Mendham, consists of 340 acres of river valley parkland where you can enjoy eight miles of trails, scenic views, ecological educational programs and an abundance of natural habitats.
Mendham provides a unique and intimate shopping experience. Local commerce consists of a select number of locally-owned shops including a florist, an up-scale vintage store, antique stores, galleries, furniture retailers and children’s boutiques. Extensive shopping opportunities can also be found nearby in downtown Morristown.
The Mendham dining scene consists of a small number of neighborhood cafes and taverns that blend intimate atmospheres with a sense of elegance. Established in 1742, the historic landmark Black Horse Pub and Tavern is the perfect spot for happy hour and dinner after a long day at the office. Mendham residents have the additional benefit of exploring the nearby Morristown area, which offers a wide selection of diners, delis, cafes, taverns and ethnic eateries.
Mendham is conveniently located near the Morristown Train Station, which offers direct routes on NJ Transit to Hoboken and New York Penn Station. The Township’s proximity to Routes 78, 80 and 287 makes commuting by car convenient.Â
Newark Liberty Airport, a major continental and international gateway, is a 45-minute drive away. The Morristown Municipal Airport, which is located in Madison, is just a 10-minute drive by car.
