Fall Fan Favorite: Pick Your Own Apples

As the leaves begin to change, the aroma of spiced lattes fill the air, and days become a little cooler, there’s no better way to embrace the magic of autumn than by visiting local apple picking farms. It’s a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, connect with nature, and spend time with family and friends. In this post, we’ve curated a list of some of the best apple picking farms in your area, promising a day filled with fun, laughter, and, of course, plenty of apples!

  • Sun High Orchards
    19 Canfield Ave, Randolph
    This farm not only offers fresh apples, but also some friendly animals to make your day! One special alpaca, named “Jersey Gold” will be sure to make you smile, while the mini donkey “Jessica” will keep everyone entertained! Closed Mondays for picking!
    ☼Weekdays: Hours: 10am-5pm / Admissions: Under 2 years are free, everyone else is $2

  • Riamede Farm
    122 Oakdale Road, Chester
    This farm is not new to apple picking! Their first pick-your-own public harvest was in 1974, and currently comprises 68 acres with most of the orchards still nurturing big old seedling apple trees planted a half century ago. The old trees are genuine antiques and provide the farm with a 19th-century feeling.
    Apples cost $2.49 per pound. Walk-up entry is available on weekdays and sometimes on weekends. Any guests under 6 years of age are free!
    ☼Weekend admission until 9/24: $10
    ☼Admissions: 9/30- 10/15: $15
    ☼Admissions: 10/21-10/31: $10

  • Wightman Farms
    1111 Mt Kemble Ave, Morristown
    Don’t miss out on a day of outdoor fun! Buy tickets on the farm, where the ticket booth is located in the front parking lot. Apples Are $3.29/lb so choose wisely! They also offer an all access pass that will sure to entertain the whole family all day! This pass is offered at $25 on weekends and includes hayrides, mazes, and apple picking admissions (guests that are 3 years and younger are free)! Just make sure to leave all pets at home (service animals welcome)!

  • Ort Farms
    25 Bartley Road, Long Valley
    This farm has over 5 acres of apples with so many varieties, including fan favorites like Gala and HoneyCrisp! They also offer rides for little ones, a farmers market that features local vendors, a corn maze, and weekend events! PYO Apples are $12 for a 1/2 peck bag to fill! Available veggies include tomatoes, squash, and more!

  • Alstede Farms
    1 Alstede Farms Lane, Chester
    This farm offers more than just orchards with opportunities to visit and feed our friendly farm animals, enjoy children’s activities like pony rides, bouncy house, or wagon train rides, live music on weekends, wine and hard cider tasting by Tomasello, and more. Admission includes the container to hold fruits/vegetables and the cost of produce picked. Admission also includes scenic hay wagon rides around our farm, access to our farm mazes/trails (season dependent), and access to our giant hay pyramid. Free admissions for Children under 2 years!

    Home to the Sue Adler Team’s annual Pumpkin Day, Hillview Farms boasts a picturesque farmland where plenty of orchards are available for picking! Hayrides to the best apple picking spots are available on weekends, and a bucket for your pickings is provided! You can also visit their general store for some delicious treats.
