Spectacular Indoor Pool Homes

When considering the value of a home, sometimes having a pool adds value to the property and sometimes it detracts from its value. There are some pools, however, that reportedly are so rare and special that the value added is incalculable. Here are a few homes with “mind-blowing” indoor pools.

Malibu Movie Setting

Situated on the Malibu, California bluffs, an eight-acre estate known as La Villa Contenta presides above the Pacific Ocean. Not content just to have panoramic ocean views, this home has a natatorium evoking the opulence of a European castle with dripping chandeliers, glass ceiling and wall reportedly lined with a mosaic of nearly a half-million seashells and corals.

This neoclassical home has played host to several television shows and movie features, including portrayal as the home of Louisiana vampire queen Sophie-Anne Leclerq, played by Evan Rachel Wood in “True Blood,” a series on HBO. Suzuki Ingerslev, “True Blood’s” production designer described the pool house as “truly breathtaking and exquisite” and pointed out that photographs do not do justice to the statues, chandeliers, chair rails and ceiling.

Other Hollywood productions using the house as a setting include both Adam Sandler’s “Funny People” and Paul Rudd’s “I Love You, Man” comedies.

The Malibu house may be rented for $250,000 per month, or you can purchase the home on a 1.52 acre parcel for $34.5 million, or the entire eight acres for $75 million.

Rare Chelsea Flat

On the opposite end of the continent, we find the most rare of indoor pools: a five-floor Chelsea flat in New York City with a 26-foot long indoor pool. No longer permitted in future construction, the pool features a swing and competes for attention in this dramatic home with a 16-foot tall solarium, rooftop sun deck, sauna and hot tub.

Aspen Roughing It

In the middle of the country sits an expansive, sparkling pool nestled under dramatic rough-hewn beams just minutes from the slopes in Aspen, Colorado. Slip into the adjacent spa to ease aching muscles after a day of skiing or hiking. The estate, with its six bedrooms and six and a half baths has undergone a complete remodel.  Views of Mount Sopris and Independence Pass are yours for just $10 million.
