Are you looking for a fun and unique way to tell your special someone that you love them this Valentine’s Day? Well, you don’t need to venture far from home to do it. There are so many fun and romantic spots in our Midtown Direct Train Line communities to treat your loved one to a special day or night out. Here are five of our favorites.

Shanghai Jazz Club, Madison

Did you know that one of the top 100 jazz clubs in the world is located right here in New Jersey? If your significant other is a jazz aficionado, there is no better place to express your love than at Shanghai Jazz Restaurant and Bar in Madison. Their menu of upscale Asian fare and the romantic ambiance have earned them rave reviews in places like the New York Times and Zagat’s. They feature live music from world-class artists six nights a week with no cover charge for most events.

Hilton, Short Hills

Looking for a romantic weekend getaway that’s just minutes away? Then check out Short Hills Hilton Hotel. The stylish hotel, located just steps from the upscale Mall at Short Hills, features spacious guest rooms and suites, plus a host of luxury amenities. Treat your loved one to a massage in the full-service spa, enjoy a quiet dinner together at The Dining Room, or relax with drinks and a lighter fare in The Retreat. You can even explore the grounds as a possible site for your future wedding, if you feel so inclined.

Trap Rock Restaurant & Brewery, Berkeley Heights

Is your honey more of a beer and baby back ribs kind of person? Then score big points with a night out at Trap Rock Restaurant and Brewery in Berkeley Heights. This excellent local microbrewery has the feel of a European ski lodge. Diners can enjoy a cozy fire while sipping on craft brews and sampling the best of American comfort food. They’ve earned stellar reviews in the New York Times, Zagat’s, the Star Ledger and more.

Lorena’s, Maplewood

Consistently featured on a variety of best restaurant lists in the tri-state area, Restaurant Lorena’s is a romantic and special dining experience on Valentine’s Day or for any special occasion. Located in the heart of Maplewood Village, Chef Campos has been offering his interpretation of haute cuisine deeply rooted in french technique and inspired by the seasons since 2005. A special Valentine’s Day/Winter menu is available, and reservations are recommended. And don’t forget to save room for a decadent dessert, best if shared with your date!

Classic Thyme Cooking School, Westfield

Does your partner in crime like to turn up the heat? Well, in the kitchen, at least? Then why not book a class or two at Classic Thyme Cooking School in Westfield? The school focuses on Italian cuisine from the warmth of their Tuscan-style kitchen. They offer a range of classes as well as private parties and special events. One recent evening featured a 10-course meal modeled after the last meal served on the Titanic.
